Community-led river restoration, supported by government information & services
Government is becoming joined up on river restoration - habitat improvement, removal of river obstructions etc. However, what will persuade communities to take the lead on this? How do we join together to demonstrate the "ecosystem services" value in our rivers, and shift the balance towards communities taking the lead? Examples of river restorations can be seen here: http://riverwiki.restorerivers.eu/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page Output of a recent hackathon on the subject shows a different way of explaining the data to the public: http://test.astuntechnology.com/geohack/links.html The first social enterprise to do this is up and running in Sheffield: http://www.the-rsc.co.uk/ Could this be a national phenomenon? How do we create a new joined up national model that is driven by communities?
